 In The Mood

Glenn Taylor

I believe that Glenn Taylor made this Iconic piece for everyone to enjoy time! Have you ever noticed how at parties the very first part is super intense and everyone is going crazy, and at the end of the dance, its super slow and not as fun? I believe that this dance song serves this purpose. It is so catchy and pulls everyone to watch it, but "In the Mood" drags for four minutes longer playing on repeat mainly the same groove or melody. For some, this is boring, but Mr. Taylor did a good job to catch the audiences attention.

I also noticed that they used crescendo on some parts to pull the audience back in. And I assume when the dancers were back to swinging again, they lowered the volume back to normal. Its interesting to me how every part of this song was used to capture taste and the feels of the audience. Even though it died off, this song was popular for many years for that reason. To this day my grandpa knows who Glenn Taylor is and enjoys listening to old records of his iconic music. It has a definite blues/rag sound, and for that reason, if you go to night clubs in this day in age, you can find that there is a lot of songs that have parts of Glenn Taylor's "In the Mood" as a base to capture the audiences attention.

  1. I love that your grandpa still enjoys this song! It really shows how timeless music can be. Like you, I noticed that this song is very repetitive and kind of long, but it is really catchy so I find that it goes by really fast. And it’s great that you brought up the energy from the audience, I feel like this song is one that Glenn can really play with. He can put the crescendos and decrescendo anywhere, and if he decides to just do the whole song in forte it would still work. It’s really a great and unique song because of that.

  2. I love your inside on noticing the crescendo in the music, as many people who aren't big into music might not notice that. I also love that your grandpa loves this song and Glenn Miller and has for a long time. It goes to show that you really do appreciate the song and the effect it had.

  3. Hey I chose this song too for one of my Blog Posts. I agree with you that Glenn does a very nice job to capture the audience. As you said as well that in clubs, whenever you hear that beginning with all the trumpets, people start to point their attention to the music. It almost acts as a Trademark to for people to start dancing. Great job!
