Blog # 7 by Cael Rowley -Purple HAZE by Jimi Hendrix

Jimi Hendrix  "Purple Haze"     One of the most influential guitarists of all time woke up the Rock world with his hit Purple Craze. In this song, I love the pausing and solos that Jimi does with the guitar. Some of the first electric guitar solos were performed by Jimi Hendrix and Its super cool to see how his rhythm ties in to the chord progressions as he plays the guitar. He kind of captures the audience with the melodic tone playing skill, and then he can change it up, so that he harmonizes with the rest of the band. Hes a very unique artist when comparing his music to others back in the sixties and seventies.     Another part that I love about his music is his ability to sing raspy and then light as a feather in this song. He plays with his fans emotions as well as brings diversity to rock and roll. Have you ever tried to change your voice from a belt to a falsetto in less than two seconds? its extremely difficult. The fact that Jimi Hendrix can do this wit...

Blog #6 Yesterday by the Beatles --Cael Rowley

"Yesterday" The Beatles     The Beatles were a famous phenomenon like we all know, but their hit song Yesterday has something very unique to it that made it so popular. It was one of their first hits, because of how unique the topic of the song was to the audience. In this era, people were used to hearing about how to fall in love and how great love is, and in this song, it was one of the few that starts talking about how love drifts away and its more than just a memory. That concept sunk deeper to people back then. Not every love story worked for people, in fact, most couples broke it off rather than stayed together during that time.      Another thing that I loved, was how they used very common instruments like the banjo and acoustic guitar to start the song, and it began to build. Later on, it descended back down to that soft tone like it did to the start. What a dramatic, heart felt song! Its good to see how important dynamics are in music, and I am a ...

#5 weekly blog/ Nancy (with a laughing face) Frank Sinatra by Cael Rowley

Nancy ( With a Laughing Face) Frank Sinatra         Something that I really enjoyed while listening to this song was the pure music that is displayed in crooners. Frank Sinatra, one of the most iconic vocalists of all time, sang this piece in a way that totally grabs the audience. Something I think is super important in music, that I thought stuck out, was showing of the vocalist when he deserves the spotlight. Often times songs have great vocalists, but the music and programming kind of get in the way of the gift that vocalists have. This song was an exception. They played back on the music and let Frank sing to take over the song. Crooning in general has grabbed audiences when making sure music is even with the singer.          I thought how interesting it is that these types of songs came out post war, when everything was starting to go back together. After the war, many soldiers just wanted to relax and singers like Frank Sina...

"In the Mood" -Glenn Taylor Cael Rowley's weekly blog #4

Image
In The Mood Glenn Taylor          I believe that Glenn Taylor made this Iconic piece for everyone to enjoy time! Have you ever noticed how at parties the very first part is super intense and everyone is going crazy, and at the end of the dance, its super slow and not as fun? I believe that this dance song serves this purpose. It is so catchy and pulls everyone to watch it, but "In the Mood" drags for four minutes longer playing on repeat mainly the same groove or melody. For some, this is boring, but Mr. Taylor did a good job to catch the audiences attention.           I also noticed that they used crescendo on some parts to pull the audience back in. And I assume when the dancers were back to swinging again, they lowered the volume back to normal. Its interesting to me how every part of this song was used to capture taste and the feels of the audience. Even though it died off, this song was popular for many years for that re...
