 Smells Like Teen Spirit

by Nirvana

I love this song by Nirvana! I never have been a fan of metal music, but there is cool draw to the sound that attracts listener, and makes you want to go do a backflip!!! I love the drum solos in this song that adds a lot of base. It sets a good metal mood. The drummer also uses a technique to go ballistic before the chorus to really hype the audience in the last second. Its cool how the band uses a soft pop sound in their lyrics, but then he changes automatically back to metal to set the stage. Its a great song to enjoy with friends, and its title really is spot on the identity of who this song is really for.

Another aspect of the song is how affected peoples lives. It really gave the "I don't care about anything" vibe. Young adults in the nineties were a rebellious generation, and this song fully embraced what they were about. It talks about this message in the final verses of this song. How cool is it that music is so emotionally connected with peoples lives in this time era. It went down as a very popular song for many years to come!!

  1. Cael, great job on your post. I really enjoyed reading your take on Nirvana's song, "Smells Like Teen Spirit". I chose this song for my blog as well. It is your typical alternative/ indie song but like you mentioned, they use unique sounds and lyrics. For example, adding in a heavy metal characteristic with the drums.

  3. I'm sure the song went platinum based on how many streams it has but I'm too lazy to look it up haha. It's definitely their flagship song whether they meant it to be or not. I like the rock aspects but sometimes it gets a little much (especially after listening to it 3 times in a row). But I liked that you focused on the drums! I think the drums really carry a song and give it the drive and life it needs.

  4. I love how you notice how the instruments and the use of them make the song unique from others. I also love how you really listened to the lyrics to understand what they were trying to get at.
